Good Tidings find Comfort and Joy at Christmas Care Home visit.

ELS is not only about providing legal advice, we also see the importance of giving something back to the communities served by Essex County Council.

On the 12 December 2018, our Health and Social Care Legal Team visited a Residential Care Home in Essex to give out gifts and more importantly to spend time with the residents.

During the visit, our team took on duties such as assisting with the tea run and adding some homemade cake for an extra treat! This was a great way to meet all of the residents at the home.

The team enjoyed spending some additional time with a few individuals, listening to their interesting life stories and learning about their wishes and thoughts. The time flew by but it also gave the team time to reflect as they spoke to residents on the legal support we provide to this sector.

The time provided insight into the impact of local government’s decisions on the lives of the residents. It was the perfect opportunity to see things from a different perspective, which in turn will help improve our service to our clients.

Our team collected feedback from the residents at the care home which they have taken on board. In the New Year ELS will look to provide a new training package for care homes to address some of the topics raised.

This experience has certainly highlighted the importance of giving something back by way of volunteering in the community. The team is championing volunteering work in ELS and hope more teams will be able to support care homes, other public services and charities in the New Year. The members of the health and social care team are all keen to undertake another care home visit in the near future.
